Each year, the Governor of Wisconsin recognizes firms and organizations that have achieved extraordinary results in international sales or have contributed to Wisconsin's increased ability to compete in a global market. This year's winner of the Governor's Export Achievement Award in The Special Recognition catagory went to Harken Yacht Equipment of Pewaukee, Wisconsin.

Governor McCallum presented the award to Peter and Olaf Harken during the Wisconsin International Trade Conference in Milwaukee. This proactive organization is made up of businesses, trade associations, and other groups interested in bringing Wisconsin products and services to the world.

During his keynote address, Governor McCallum, who has an MBA in international economics from John Hopkins University, commented that Wisconsin strongly supports overseas trade and that in that last ten years, the State's exports have jumped dramatically. He pointed out that although a small company, Harken has made significant contributions to that growth.

The 1989 Price Waterhouse Award for Competitive Excellence in International Business - presented by Price Waterhouse International Business Center

The 1998 Governor's New Product Award - Presented by Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson
